I hope this finds you and your families safe and well.
Thursday, 12 March 2020 was the last time we had players training at the club and as we left Park Mains Sports Complex (PMSC) that evening, no-one could have imagined that we would be without indoor basketball on a proper court for a whole year.
It’s a sad milestone to have reached, and the current lifting of restrictions has not changed our position in terms of the training we can offer at this time, or indeed, permitted PMSC to open for indoor sports. Basketball Scotland, in accordance with Scottish Government guidelines, have confirmed that for under 18s, only outdoor, non-contact basketball is permitted under the current restrictions.
However, the mass vaccination programme does give us hope of a possible return to training later this year. Some factors are uncertain, of course, including the possibility of players’ diminished interest in some sports having done without them for so long. We can only hope that the opposite is true and that our players will be more enthusiastic than ever to renew their acquaintance with basketball, perhaps having further developed their ball-handling skills outdoors during the past year.
As restrictions continue to ease, we will keep you advised of any positive developments affecting the club. In the meantime, stay safe, stay well, look after yourselves and others and look forward to basketball being part of your lives again.
